Premier League - Team news: Busy week takes toll

(Kick-offs 15:00 UK time unless otherwise stated)

SATURDAY

Middlesbrough v Chelsea (12:45)

There are doubts over the fitness of striker Mido (groin) so Boro boss Gareth Southgate could play Jeremie Aliadiere in attack alongside Afonso Alves. At the back, Robert Huth remains sidelined with an ankle problem and skipper Emanuel Pogatetz misses out through suspension. Andrew Taylor has shaken off a hip injury and returns to the squad.

Chelsea manager Luiz Felipe Scolari has a worryingly high number of injury concerns: Michael Ballack (feet), Ashley Cole (hamstring), Joe Cole (ankle), Petr Cech (thigh), Deco (thigh), Ricardo Carvalho (knee), Alex (hip), Didier Drogba (knee) and Michael Essien (cruciate) are out. But captain John Terry is fit despite having missed England's last two games with a back injury. Young winger Scott Sinclair and England Under-21 defender Michael Mancienne have been called into the squad.

Arsenal v Everton

Arsene Wenger will be without captain William Gallas, full-back Bacary Sagna and striker Nicklas Bendtner while there are concerns over Cesc Fabregas (broken nose), Robin van Persie (muscular) and Johan Djourou (concussion). But Abou Diaby returns into contention for the first time this season. Mikael Silvestre could make his debut.

Everton striker Victor Anichebe and captain Phil Neville are still recovering from hamstring problems while Leon Osman has a groin strain. Segundo Castillo is also out with a hamstring strain while Phil Jagielka and Joseph Yobo have flu.

Aston Villa v Portsmouth

Villa boss Martin O'Neill could be tempted to change his starting line-up for the first time this season with Steve Sidwell, Carlos Cuellar and James Milner in contention to get the nod. Gabriel Agbonlahor (hamstring) is a doubt but only Wilfred Bouma (ankle) is definitely unavailable.

Lassana Diarra (knee) and Richard Hughes (groin) are likely to miss out for Pompey, so Papa Bouba Diop is likely to switch to his more preferred central role, with John Utaka and Glen Little contesting for the wide berth. Niko Kranjcar (ankle) remains sidelined and there are doubts over Younes Kaboul (back). But Sean Davis is expected to feature despite suffering back-spasms during training.

Fulham v Sunderland

Andrew Johnson returns from suspension for Fulham, meaning manager Roy Hodgson has a near full compliment to choose from. Just Diomansy Kamara (knee) is out injured for the Cottagers.

Sunderland midfielder Teemu Tainio is back in contention after recovering from a shoulder injury but the game comes too soon for Nyron Nosworthy (hamstring), Kenwyne Jones and Martyn Waghorn (both knee), despite the trio having returned to training. Meanwhile Dwight Yorke's midweek exploits on international duty are likely to see him sit out this one.

Liverpool v Wigan Athletic

Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez will be without Fernando Torres (pictured, hamstring) and Ryan Babel (ankle), who both suffered injuries on international duty in midweek. Robbie Keane and Dirk Kuyt should start up front. Daniel Agger is expected to replace the injured Martin Skrtel alongside Jamie Carragher in defence.

Amr Zaki (calf) is a major doubt for Wigan, although Steve Bruce says he will give the Egyptian every chance of starting alongside England hero Emile Heskey in attack. If he doesn't make it, Henri Camara is likely to deputise. Defender Erik Edman may also return to squad after a knee injury.

Bolton Wanderers v Blackburn Rovers

Bolton manager Gary Megson has a fully fit squad to choose from as Heidar Helguson and Gretar Steinsson have both recovered from knocks picked up on international duty. Midfielder Matthew Taylor's stunning free-kick against West Ham may earn him a starting place in this Lancashire derby.

Blackburn keeper Paul Robinson has recovered from the calf injury which kept him out of the last two league matches. However, striker Roque Santa Cruz is set to miss out again, while midfield duo David Dunn and Steven Reid face lengthy lay-offs.

Manchester United v West Bromwich (17:30)

The champions could be boosted by the likely return of both Michael Carrick (ankle) and Owen Hargreaves (knee) but Paul Scholes remains out with knee ligament damage.

Chris Brunt returns into contention for the Baggies following a hamstring injury but Filipe Teixeira's plans to make a comeback against United have been scuppered by a calf strain. Abdoulaye Meite (calf) remains sidelined.

SUNDAY

Hull City v West Ham

High-flying Hull are set to welcome back defender Anthony Gardner from a calf injury, and he could slide straight in at the expense of Kamil Zayette. Nick Barmby and Stelios Giannakopoulos have also returned to training for the Tigers, but both will likely have to settle for spots on the bench.

West Ham have new loan signing Diego Tristan available, but the Spanish striker appears likely to start on the bench with Gianfranco Zola blessed by a quartet of fit forwards. Carlton Cole and David Di Michele led the line last time out against Bolton, but Di Michele could see his place taken by the fit-again Craig Bellamy - who impressed in midweek on duty for Wales.

Stoke City v Tottenham Hotspur (16:00)

Stoke will be looking for their first win in five Premier League outings, and will be without Salif Diao (groin). Meanwhile, Liam Lawrence looks set to miss out after bizarrely injuring his ankle in a dog-related incident.

Tottenham will be without striker Roman Pavlyuchenko, who suffered ligament damage to his ankle in the defeat to Hull, and as a result Darren Bent is likely to lead the line with youngster Frazier Campbell. David Bentley and Giovani Dos Santos are both fit and pushing for a starting berth in midfield.

MONDAY

Newcastle United v Manchester City (20:00)

Michael Owen is missing after suffering a groin injury in training. Obafemi Martins is set to fill his boots and start up front with Damian Duff in support, as the Magpies attempt to avoid a third successive home defeat in the league.

City will wait to see if Brazilian wizard Robinho has recovered from a thigh injury sustained on World Cup duty against Colombia, but early reports suggests the £32 million man will be okay. Martin Petrov is unlikely to feature, however, after picking up a knee injury in Bulgaria's goalless draw with Georgia.
